Bath Christmas Market
The precisely organised rows of wooden chalets, decorated with twinkling fairy lights and set against the illuminated backdrop of Bath Abbey and Abbey Green are back for another year, taking up residence in the city until 11 December.
We can feel the biting cold, smell the caramelised nuts and mulled wine and hear the cries of delight coming from the Snow Globe just thinking about it.
Regularly voted among the most popular events in the UK, the 18-day extravaganza is the biggest – and most beautiful – Christmas shopping event in the South West and, with over 170 traditional stalls, including 23 short-term pop-ups and 18 charities getting involved, it’s all set to be the most memorable yet.
Wander along the cobbled pavements between Bath Abbey and the Roman Baths and you’ll see particularly-popular local stalls such as Bloomsbury, The Makery, Bath Aqua Glass, Grace & Mabel, Bollywood Christmas and Four Legged Fancies making their appearance. While we love the trinkets, baubles, fashion accessories and one-of-a-kind hand-crafted wares, some our favourite stalls involve those where you can try before you buy. There’ll be fabulous festive food and drink from Taste of Bath, Christmas spirits from Bath Gin and Friary Liqueurs to tempting sweet treats from Choc on Choc and Lick the Spoon.
Our top tip for tackling the throng, while maximising your shopping potential, is to visit on a weekday evening when the market is at its quietist. That way you can take a leisurely stroll, stop and admire the colourful sights and find perfect stocking filler ideas along with plenty of festive cheer.
